8mR & R-Class: A longstanding LYRA Tradition

There are not many classes of sailing yachts who can say they have been racing at LYRA for hundreds of years, but the R-Class and 8mR can. This year LYRA is sponsoring a satellite event to the main show at Kingston Yacht Club. Cobourg Yacht Club are the gracious hosts, putting on a Regatta for the 8mR and R-Class August 4th, 5th and 6th. The Town of Cobourg has gotten fully behind the event which will have a home base in the lovely downtown Cobourg mooring basin.
Given the incident that happened and the resulting loss of two 8mR’s on the race course during the RCYC Open, the North American Eight Meter Class has confirmed that a minimum of five 8mR will be attending the CYC event. The town of Cobourg & CYC are both excited that the 8mR fleet as there guests. The Town of Cobourg has a long connection to LYRA, so much so that the Town crest features a LYRA element!
Come out on your boat and join us as spectators to see both classic and modern 8mR race against each other and compete for the Commodore Gooderham Trophy (8mR) and the Sit Thomas Lipton Cup (R-Class).
